Artificial Intelligence is transforming how governments operate, from tax collection and fraud detection to predicting disease outbreaks and optimizing transport systems. What was once impossible due to scale and complexity is now achievable through AI’s predictive power.

The Indonesian public sector, for example, can leverage AI for predictive policymaking, allowing for proactive interventions in areas such as education dropouts, disaster management, and budget allocation. AI-based chatbots are also improving service delivery by reducing queue times and enabling 24/7 access to information.

However, AI must be implemented responsibly. Governments face the dual challenge of investing in AI talent and preventing algorithmic bias. Without inclusive and transparent AI frameworks, trust in public institutions may erode rather than improve.

To fully realize AI’s potential, public servants must be reskilled and organizational cultures must shift to embrace experimentation, agility, and data literacy. The focus must be on augmenting human decision-making, not replacing it.
